And just like that…
It’s Christmas Eve! We have been in our home for four months already! I don’t know how, but time just flew by! I said to Mike the other day, I just don’t feel like it’s Christmas! Normally this time of the year is my jam! I’m rocking out to music, wrapping gifts, just in holiday season love! I love the joy of giving and helping others!
Normally my season starts off by taking a day off of work and doing my annual Gingerbread House Day with not so fortunate children at a local elementary school here in town. That is my favorite thing to do! I get to spend time with little ones and get to creative something so important for a lot of them to take home and decorate with! For most it will be more then likely the only decoration of the holiday season they will have in their home. Some are waiting to give to a parent that’s been incarcerated to see, some just hoping they have “behaved” enough because Santa didn’t come to their home last year. It’s sad really when you think about it, but you give them hope by talking with them and building their house. Listening to them tell you how excited they are! Most of all building that one connection that encourages them to work hard and not give up when things don’t go their way or they feel let down! To dream big and make sure they do what they want to do in life! Thats what I love about that day! Besides seeing their faces lite up when Santa comes to see them!
I continue on the day when I finish with the kids by starting and finishing all my Christmas shopping all I one day. Jamming out and listening to Christmas’s music in the car! The days go on as my festivities continue for the season. Parties, dinners, plays and my favorite paying it forward once a day going thru the drive thru at Starbucks and buying someone’s coffee or adding change to add extra time in someone’s meter. All in hope that those not excited by the magic of Christmas get a smile on their face for a little while!
This year, well… I’ve done none of this! Why?! Well a few weeks back I fell and had a bit of an accident here in the house and I’m not able to put much weight on my foot. I have been in this house, I love so much for nearly a month. We have put up minimal decorations and I bought one gift for my husband…online. It’s given me a lot of time to think about her. What she was like this time of year for the last 116 years? I know that probably for about 6 years she had no one to celebrate within her, as she was vacant from time to time! 48 years she celebrated Hanukkah within her! 61 Christmas Days celebrated! This year with us will be her 62nd Christmas! There won’t be much going on here Christmas morning just Mike and I enjoying her warmth and shelter. Our love for each other and for her! Along with a Star Wars marathon and steaks on the grill! LOL
Mike said something to me the other day after we came home from dropping my daughter off at the airport after a quick visit from her. It made me well up a bit, so here it goes….“ I know you haven’t been able to do the normal festive BUSY BEE YOU, this holiday season! I want you to know that I love you very much and so does Rubee! She is living because of you! You are the heart of this house! She lives on because of you! You keep her memories alive and although she has many chapters to her story that you are writing about, you by far, I know are going to be her favorite chapter!” He always knows the right things to say to put a smile on my face!
Happy Holiday season everyone! Wishing you and your families nothing but the best, as you come together near and far to celebrate! Enjoy!!
