About Us

Thank you for stopping by and taking a peek at our blog. We hope you follow us and watch how we enhance the beauty, learn about its history, and most of all love this 1903 brick American Foursquare/ Prairie Box in Rockford, Illinois . It’s nestled in the Churchill Grove community, which is full of architectural charm. We can’t wait to give you a glimpse!

My husband I just Just married in December of 2018. Here we are 8 months later delving into our second big adventure together! Don’t know where this is going to take us, but we are excited to get started!

Grateful

It has been a long four day weekend and for that I am grateful! For the first time in a long time, I wasn’t feeling like days have been going by so quickly and rushing to have to get back to work! We hosted Thanksgiving this year in our 116 year old home for the first time. We had a small gathering of 5 of us and it was perfect! I will imagine next year it could be bigger but for now we kept things small and intimate.

I finally had an occasion to use my mother-in-laws everyday china for this special occasion and with a heavy heart all I could think about was how I really wish she could have been here in person. I would have loved if she could have seen the house and what we have done in 3 short months to make it our own. I know she would have been over the moon with the fact we were using her china for our first holiday dinner in our new home. My husband reminds me often he knows she would have loved this house and would have loved me. I really didn’t have but 6 months with her prior to us losing her to cancer. I feel cheated at times as all I have to go by is their memories and love they had for her. After I met her for the first time I was really looking forward to getting to know her and spend time with her but she declined and unfortunately that was not in our cards! I just do what I can to carryon her memory with her boys! I know she was with us in spirit, loving us getting together and enjoying each other’s company!

Dinner was fantastic! Not to toot my own horn, but probably one of the best Thanksgiving meals I’ve ever prepared! Way to much food, but it was worth the uncomfortable stuffed feeling we all had! During dinner I was side tracked in conversation numerous times, just thinking about how many Thanksgivings happened in this dinning room….Did they have large family gatherings? The stuffing, the cranberries, the formal table, a kids table? The laughter of stories of memories that were so special to them? The first time meeting a family members significant other? Did this house bring them as much joy on this holiday as it has done for me?

There are so many things in my 48 years of living that I am grateful for, but today I am especially grateful for our home (our Rubee) and all the joy she gives me each day!

I hope you all had a very Happy Thanksgiving in your old homes! I hope they each brought you as much joy and heart filling memories as it has for me! From of our home to your home enjoy your holiday season!
