About Us

Thank you for stopping by and taking a peek at our blog. We hope you follow us and watch how we enhance the beauty, learn about its history, and most of all love this 1903 brick American Foursquare/ Prairie Box in Rockford, Illinois . It’s nestled in the Churchill Grove community, which is full of architectural charm. We can’t wait to give you a glimpse!

My husband I just Just married in December of 2018. Here we are 8 months later delving into our second big adventure together! Don’t know where this is going to take us, but we are excited to get started!

An Idea Is Born

I’ve been hanging out at the library, county records, city hall and the assessors office a lot lately! I have pages and pages of articles, social happenings, classifieds, maps and old deeds. Now, having our Abstract for the house would alleviate all these countless hours of searching, but unfortunately at closing we did not get one .

I was reading a society ad in the paper on a happening at our house the other day. It was on how little Miss Thelma Rubin on July 22nd, 1922 celebrated her 6th birthday anniversary and entertained 20 of her little friends. A few thoughts came to mind in that moment! Wow, people back then sure like to put their business out there in the local paper! I mean come on, did 6year old little Miss Thelma care that everyone in Rockford knew she had 20 of her friends over for cake and ice cream? I would say probably not! These type of ads happened offend. All of these stories and ads just started to become so entertaining, yet oddly so familiar! At that moment a friends Facebook Live notification popped up on my phone….ummmm yeah, all these findings were just a 1922 version of Facebook!

We really haven’t changed much socially in 116 years! Sure, so much has changed around us, but socially in some ways, most like to tell everyone how they are feeling or what they are doing!

I packed up my data I collected for the day to have some lunch and I made my way to a new favorite restaurant in town I’m in love with! As I was sitting there (for a second day in a row) it came to me! What am I going to do now with all of this paper and data I have? Then a common post a family friend who follows my photography page popped into my head! At that moment I knew her words were right! I’m about to take on something I know nothing about….WRITE A BOOK! Not one clue on how I’m gonna do this or what it all entails, but you all know me, when I make a decision to do something I delve in and there is no turning back!

So to my house at 1603 Camp Avenue just days away from you 116th birthday, your story will be told! You owe the birth of this idea to Pamela Eccarius!
